Your Qibla Locator works as a charm! Well done and very useful.
May I suggest not to use grey, blue or purple texts against a black background - this does not show well on many screens. Why not use a simple white background?
The qibla direction, geographical data and distance are shown with far too many decimals - their spurious accuracy may confuse users. Four or five decimals should be sufficient and the output bar will look nicer.
Many non Anglo-Saxon users would prefer to see the distance given in kilometers, not in miles. Why not add an option so that the user can choose the units. Other users may also prefer to have the angular data given in arcminutes and arcseconds instead of decimal degress.
Thanks for the great feedback Robert. This is exactly what i’m looking for; feedback from users so I can imporve the application. I’ll definitely look into your suggestions and try and work them in.
I am putting together a website for my mosque and I would like to integrate qibla locator into the website (without requiring to jump out of the site). I’d very much appreciate your feedback on this.
Wa’alaikum Assalam,
Jazzakallah Khair. You could use iframes to load this page in your site. That would actually load qibla locator but seem as if it was on your masjids site.
At the moment I am focusing in fixing some of the bugs with the qibla locator and don’t plan in making a seperate module that essentially does the same thing.
I am new in Harvard university Cambridge. The qibla according to this software is in Northeast of Cambridge MA USA, whereas if you look at globe, Saudi Arabia is in the Southeast of Cambridge. This is confusing to find out the rifgt direction of Qibla. Please guide !
AssalamuAlaikum Dr Hamdani,
I’m glad you asked that question. Your confusion arises from the fact that you are looking a flat map of the earth. If you were to look at a real spherical globe you would note that the qibla IS indeed in the Northeast. For a detailed explanation I would like to point you to http://moonsighting.com/qibla.html. This site also mentions several alternate ways to find out the qibla direction all of which back the direction given by the qibla locator.
Like all the others, I really appreciate your site. I am using it to help a local mosque here in UK to get set up properly.
One point is unclear. Are your bearings in degrees from True North or from Magnetic North? I’m pretty sure it’s True North. Since most people would use your maps in conjunction with a compass, I think that it’s very important that you avoid confusion (and argument!!!) by making this clear.
Walaikum Assalam Peter,
Thank you for your comment. You are correct. The North represented in the maps is the True North and NOT the magnetic North. I hope this takes care of any confusion.
This tool is fabulous and gives you the unbeleivable convinience to layout new mosques. I’m an architect and working on a Mosque project in America. I wasn’t sure about the accuracy of the angle your formula provides. So I started applying this locator on some famous existing mosques. Some of them (incl Badshahi Mosque of Lahore of Mughal era) follow truly the direction suggested by the LOCATOR where as many other famous Mosques which are built in recent past show quite noticeable variance from the angle suggested by the locator. Among them are Faisal Mosque of Islamabad and the largest moque in Middle east (other than the Haramain) which is recently built in Muscat Oman. Could you please comment on this. I would be obliged.
Wassalm
Ahmed
I’m sorry I couldn’t tend to your question in time. The equations I used for determining the qibla are based upon spherical trigonometry. These were obtained from Dr. Mohibullah N.Durrani’s website at http://www.islamworld.net/qibla.html . The accuracy of these equations can be verified and have been verified (read last paragraph) to be almost the same using the method of locating the qibla using the sun which is the most reliable method to date. I would suggest you not to rely on just any one method but use as many possible ways to determine the qibla.
As far as commenting on the variance of the angle of certain recent masajid I don’t think I have anything to say about it other than use as many methods known in finding the qibla accurately. And Allah knows best.
Lastly, I would like to ask you to make dua for me and all Muslims. Please try and keep me informed on your findings and the approach you take in finding the qibla.
Hi and Happy Ramadan.
This tool is very usefull. Thanks for providing it. Looking at the direction you show for North China or Mongolia, it does not look correct. Can you check? Also check Greenland …
Thanks,
–Mehdi
Thanks a lot for the nice job. As you correclty
have mentioned, the direction is given with respect to
True North. Nevertheless, most people use a compass to
find the direction, and so, they have the Magnetic
North instead. As the difference between True and
Magnetic North could be quite consdierable, do you
have any suggestion for people who simply use a compass?
Assalamu alaikum , Br Mehdi,The directions given at the locations you mention are correct. Perhaps you might want to readup on this site why this is the correct direction.
Br Mohammad, One of the main features of the qiblalocator is that one does not need to use a compass at all. Just by looking at the map and locating your surrounding landmarks you can face the qibla by following the red line.
Salam Alaikum brother Ibn-e-Mas’ud.
JazakAllah Khairun for such an excellent effort.
I recently moved to another place in Houston and wasn’t sure of Qibla direction and Alhamdolillah your website solved the problem. I checked and verified the direction from some cities in U.S. and Pakistan, like Hyderabad, and found it correct.
Only Allah Subhanahu Wa Tuala can reward your this great service to Islam, we offer sincere gratitude. I must say I am really proud of you!
I am living in Japan and had difficulties to find the qiblah in my home. Thanks to Allah (CC) it was easy to find your homepage using to Google.
Your website is very usefull and can be good help for all the people who move different countries which lack from common knowlegde of Islam and Qiblah.
Salam Alaikum brother Ibn-e-Mas’ud.
I recently moved to Netherlands from Bahrain. I was clearly lost out on how to determine the Qiblah direction here. I googled it and found that you have made our lives really easier. This tool is very useful.
May Allah reward you.
I would really like to thank you for this program. I just realized that I have been praying in the opposite directoin for the last 5 months. God bless you!
Assalamualaikum ya brother,
I write to you from Abuja,Nigeria, where we are trying to set-out a new mosque for construction and are determined to get the orientation in perfect alignment to the holy Kaaba. After a lengthy search on the ‘net i zeroed in on your site which subsequently served our purpose perfectly. I can only say to you - jazakallahu khairan.
Masalam.
May Allah give y millions of ajr and sawab for yr brilliant extra useful work. This is a great gift for those muslim brothers who lives in western countries. As Qibla is one of the signs of unity for Muslims,May Allah gives Toufiq to brings all the hearts of Muslims closer any where in the world, and make them Bunyan Marsoos. All the best.Jazakallah Khair.
AoA,
Really great website… ever since I moved to the US, I have been locating the qibla by myself, sorting out directions with my Islamic Center’s direction of qibla. I wasn’t very sure ever, but now that my friend referred your website, I am more confident about the qibla directions and happy that I’d be able to locate it where ever I go. Thank you!
Great tool! I am a Muslim and an Architect who designs masjids as part of my practice. We are reasonably technically savvy and have used Google Earn (along with MS Virtual Earth) for a while now. I have written several emails directly to Google with a comparable idea for them to incorporate INTO Google Earth but they’ve never replied. Your program/website seems to use Google Earth, but does not run in it.
Has Google ever considered incorporating the Qibla locator into the main program? Ideally, the Qibla could be shown graphically as a series of concentric circles growing or eminating outward from the Kabba to any point on earth. This would be an invaluable tool to be able to graphically explain the qibla to Muslims worldwide. Not just locate the Qibla, but EXPLAIN it too. Think about how Google Earth pans from a world view to your location. Perhaps it could do it from the Kabba to your location, following the ever increasing series of concentric circles originating at the Kabba. That’s the idea.
Furthermore, you may consider a link to http://www.Islamicfinder.net. This site can calculate the qibla along with prayer times for any location worldwide. It just lacks a graphical interface and explanation.
Dear Brother
Thank you very much for this service. I am a Muslim Elhamdulillah and living in the US and your website helped me alot. May God give you billions of saevvap for this efficient work.I will prey that May God reward you.
BEST
Alhamdoliillah…. 2 good my friend… Inshallah u get everything u need…. I am also a software eng but u have made a good thing…. @least i found qibla in Houston, TX. Thanxl

MashaAllah Your work is great, InshaAllah definitely you will get millions and millions of rewards from our Lord, and I’m at Sydney, Australia. My small blog’s ( http://www.aussitamilmuslim.blogspot.com ) visitor using your Qibla locator wherever they Travel to different places its amazing
Before use your Qibla Locator i tested with different masjid qibla -its unique not much different
Dear brother, i am very happy to see that this kind of website exists. It’s a really good idea you had. Thank you for helping us. It’s difficult to pray when we travel and don’t know the direction of Qibla. It will be more easy now. God reward you and all muslims.
I was thinking to use Google maps for finding directions based on heuristics. But to my intense surprise, you have already provided a nice and accurate way of doing the same. May the Almighty Allah reward you for your efforts. Jazakallah,
Salamo alaikum,
Jazak Allahu Khairan,
There is a very useful application.
I’ve read Laila’s post, and I would almost tear in cry, to feel how would an individual can change lives remotely.
Assalaamu alaikum
Great Job!!!
I just wanted to inform you that I put a link from our association’s website to your locater. hope you don’t mind. http://www.mahvoice.ca
I recently had this website forwarded to me, and I wasn’t sure if I was praying the right direction. With this website I was able to confirm it. Thank you for this website. This will help me tremendously no matter where I go.
Extremely useful site. Helped me to locate exact direction However I find that my Mumbai address cannot be found on the site. Is India not included so far?
Just one feature which im sure will help lots of people is it possible to add a cirle thing so we can turn the map round. This will help in getting our bearings right. eg if a high st is physically to my left but on map its on right id like to turn map so i get my qibla direction better.
Assalamu alaikum. thank you for simplifying a task and making it available to every one. a great job.
Although some persons have reasons for extreme precision in determining the direction of Qiblah but for day to day usage Muslims only need a reasonably accurate general direction. your program has solved both issues.
May Allah SWT reward you with the best in this world and in the Hereafter, for helping many of us (architects and travelers)- Ameen.
To those who wish to incorporates a link to this program on their site my request is that please do not forget to acknowledge Ibn Masood for his efforts and make a prayer for him.
Qiblalocator doesn’t work for north America at all, I live in New Jersey and when I put my zip code the Qiblalocator drew a line for me and when I zoomed it out the line was pointing towards Iceland not Saudi Arabia, the website administers should check this out for themselves.
This is great, muslims can get the direction to pray in where in the world where they have a computer. This is good bida (innovation) and we as Muslims should use it.
Shukran for your efforts towards the betterment of the Ummah! May The Almighty reward you and your family in abundance and grant you success in this world and the next! Aameen.
Assalaamu Alaikum, May Allah reward you for this endeavor, it is definitely worthwhile. I am in MD, Zip 20744 and Qibla-Locator indicates that the direction of the Qibla is northeast, however when I look at a map and a globe I see that the Qibla is actually Southeast of my location. Please explain your calculations and how this is derived as I am having a hard time validating your application when I look at a map.
May Allah continue to bless for your efforts.
During Ramadan when I check your web site and tried to locate the Qibla for state of New jersey USA it was showing me Iceland as the qibla and I posted a comment asking you to check the accuracy of the Qibla locator, but since my comment pointed a mistake on your side you removed it. I don’t think it is Islamic to deceive the people and cover the truth, the qibla locator doesn’t work for northeast America !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My dear Brother, I’m an Indian Engineer working in Belgium.
MashaAllah, Your work is simply awesome, Wonderful. This is really helpful. May Allah reward you in this life and the HereAfter. Aameen.
I have my zip code as 6041. But when I just put 6041, I’m directed towards Australia, while mine is 6041, Charleroi, Belgium. So I think Country is mandatory with Zip code.
I hope you would not mind me forwarding your Qibla locator to my contacts. It is a great tool. Jazakallah khair. Wassalaam.
Congratulations. This is very commendable. Its works fine. I have Apple Mac and the browser is Safari. So far I have just tried the locations I already know just to check if it points accurately and it does!
May Allah bless you for this amazing tool which has solved many an argument. Too bad I can’t use it on my iPhone’s Safari browser but it is still very handy. Jazak Allah Khairun.
Somebody forwarded me your qibla locater link. Mashallah I was very happy and pleased with this work.
Just as a suggestion to make this work even more benefitting to the ummah, I think if you could get this “ENDORSED” or “CERTIFIED” by some MUFTIS and ULAMA, it would be even better.
I am not sure where you are, but if you are in the US, I think you should contact Shariah Board in Chicago (Mufti Nawalur Rahman Saab, etc.), or maybe even Mufti Desai Saab of S. Africa (ask-imam.com) or darul-iftaa.com (from UK).
If you could get them to comment on your work, more peopple would use it, and they would even inform others about your work.
May Allah (SWT) reward you and your family for an excellent contribution to the Muslim Ummah. This will be a great Aid to those seeking a proper direction of the Qibla. Is there a possibility of allowing search by Latitude & Longitude, as it would help those who are in remort locations not covered by the maps.
I have a development suggestion for ease of use:
if there are two locations with the same name, the search engine gives only one of them and no way to reach the other through the search command. for instance: there are two locations named (Duma) one in Sudan and one in Syria, the search engine givs only the one in Sudan.
The same thing for (Harasta) one in Syria and one in USA.
I suggest if the search results are listed in the margin so the user specifies which one he is looking for / OR if you make it possible for the search box to accept strings like:( Syria, Duma) or (Syria, Harasta)
Wajazakallahu khairan
Salam
Thank you for this excellent effort. I noticed that the direction in some places is not correct. For example, when I type Seattle, the red line point towards the north east!!.
Masha-allah your quibla calc. is awesome. You guys are truely blessed. Every travelling Muslim using your tool (worldwide) thanks you and your efforts for providing us with an answer to the most challenging question “where is quibla?”. My job entails frequent travelling and your calculator has proved to be invaluable. I’ve often used inaccurate compasses, and often guessed! But this is great.
i have a good suggestion that i think it will be useful. i wish to find the direction of the qibla directly when i enter the qibla locator site without the hastle of trying to find where am i on the map .. i mean if you can take the IP address and at least open the Google map of the city i am in at the moment (from the IP Address ) that will be more than enought as a start point.
Alhamdulillah this is very good! I will implement iframes in my portal to help my countrymen further. With your permission of course
May Allah reward you for this excellent effort!
This a very helpful Site may god reward you inshalla.
If I may say if you could put some extra effort to this site and if the prayer timings may be added to the major cities that can be found on this website by clicking on the city that is shown on the map.
This locator is pointing north which is wrong I am living in California, USA. It should point at least to the East South. I need explanation for this so the other muslims will not be missleaded. Thanks.
AAWAW
May Allah reward you over and over for this great service. It’s very helpful and to make it even more helpful especially for travellers and people on the way who doesn’t know their exact address, I would suggest you 2 things:
1. mobile access
2. GPS integration
luckily google maps have both, the mobile access and the “track location” that uses GPS, so I hope you can use your overlay on their mobile version afer tracking location
I start In the name of God, The most gracious the most merciful.
First of all, i will like to thank ALlah(swt ) for giving you the oppurtunity to develop this service for the muslim ummah free of charge.
You have done a really nice job, that is why i will like to make a request.
If you could expose the qibla locator webservice interface methods. As it well help in the expansion and integration in other islamic softwares currently developed.
Jazakallahu khair. In anticipation of your favourable response
jizakallah….its been a great confusion not to locate Qibla since am a new student in Reading University,UK.There is no sunset or rise here to identify Qibla. I must congratulate you for developing this site.initialy i had some problem in locating the place but Hybrid option made it alot easier. Thank you again.
Salam Alaikoum Brother,
May Allah accept from you and bless you. The tool is very accurate in the region where I live. I guess it is the same for other locations.
One tip for further enhancing the program is to make it automatically read the user’s IP Address and by default have their location displayed on the map. To get a better idea of what I mean check out google gadget “IP Information” by ‘C.K. Yang’..
Dear brother,
This is a great work and it shows how can muslims utilize modern technology to improve their reglegous duties performance.
Is it possible to locate persons location from his IP address then gives him automatically his Qibla direction?
dear brother, jazakAllah. this is a very nice effort from you. I am in copenhagen and this qibla locator has helped me in getting the qibla direction. May Allah give you courage to make such great projects. take care. salam o alaikum
Salam wbt,
I came to know the programs via a friend of mine in UK. Thank you for developing it. I tried it with my current NZ address, it worked beautifully. But when I typed in my Malaysian address, it said that the address cannot be found. Only worked if I typed city or state, like Kuala Lumpur but not the smaller suburbs like Gombak, Selangor or Seberang Jaya, Pulau Pinang. Does this mean that the database on Google Earth is incomplete? Syukran, jazakallahu khair for your time and effort.
A simple but very useful tool. Thank you.
Just an idea. it will be easy for the users if you can provide searchin a place based on Latitude/Langitude numbers.
This is a great project! Thanks for your hard work and efforts. Maybe if there was an embeddable code–that would really help many people. If you could do that, please that would be great!
Jazakallahu khair for the magnificent program and for your hardwork. I find the accuracy and speed astonishing.
However I found that certain addresses would not yield any result. Even when I input the town name “Bandar Baru Bangi” it didn’t show result, whereas when I used manual zooming, I could find the town with its name correctly located. Does this relate to some bug in the Google mapping program which is outside your control?
It is a great work, not only me but the entire world appreciating your great work. I am impressed with your idea. I am an IT-Professional myself but did not come up with this idea even though I could have done it. Only Allah can reward you for your community work.
If you need any assistance in future towards any development of website, please do let me know. I will be happy to assist you in your project.
Assalam Alikum,
Excellent work. This site will be the first to look at in my travels. I used to rely on maps and asking hotel staff for help in locating Qibla while traveling, no more will I need that.
Jazak Allah Khair. I hope you are rewarded in Jannah for this helpful tool.
AlHamdulillaahi Katheeran Bukratan Wa ASeelaa;
AlHamdulillaahilladhiy Hadhaanaa Liy Haadhaa.
Jazaakum Allaahu Ta’Aalaa Kullu Khair Wa Baarik Allaahu Fiykum.
We Muslimeen really have to step back up to the forefront of technology and advancements in excellent thing and overcome the grips of Ash ShaiTaanir Rajeem though his followers be numerous.
None is a better Helper than Allaah.
May Allaah Grant us the Favor to Make us among Al ‘Ibaadullaah Is SaliHeen.
As Salaamu ‘Alaikum Wa RaHmatullaahi Wa Barakaatuhuu.
the website can start directly in the area of the visitors city or place from the ip address and for the cell phone uses the city or area can be found by the phone’s base station informations.
Your Qibla Locator is what we need! Well done and very useful.
May I suggest that you incorporate the magnetic pole adjustment to the software so that users have a choice of True North or Magnetic North. Most of us use compass to locate Qibla.
I looked up the qibla direction from Melbourne, Australia. The qibla direction given points to somewhere in Africa, not to Mecca at all. Why is that?
wasalaam
Jazakum Allah Khair. This is an excellent example of putting the latest technologies to good use. I travel a lot around the world and find your Qibla locator extremely useful. May Allah bless and reward you for this excellent work. Do you realize that inshallah you will get Hasanat everytime someone uses your software and performs his prayers in the correct direction or if someone uses this module to correctly assign the Qibla direction of a mosque.
Finally, I have a simple request. Is it possible to have the module accept longitue and latitude.
Assalamu alaykum wa ra7mato allahi wa barakatuhu.
I live in North America in the center of the united states. I typed my address in space provided and looked at the map. My zip code is 38103. it gave me a 56.xx from north. I made the map the smallest possible so I can see the Ka3ba location and looked at the red line and I was completely surprised. The red line is going way over where the Ka3ba location is even way over the whole middle east region. Is that a mistake. Please look into that and let me know. I beg of you to look into this. I do not want to pray to the wrong direction. Please help me.
Dear Brother,
This is wery helpfull and good web site,
i hope you will improve it by placing prayer times, and a desktop tool for it,
i beleive then, more muslims will use it on their desktops.
thansk you again.
Allah bless you and all muslims.
Qadir
Great work, thank you very much. I read it on Turkey’s most selling daily newspaper Zaman and checked the site immeadeatly. Thanks again. May Allah bless you for this simple but great idea and may you be Mas’ud in both here in this world and beyond.
Was salaam
Qibla locater is miracle indeed, it is really a very big help to locate the right angle for qibla, i tried difference traditional qibla locater compass but didn’t get the right result but with your locater it clear the confusion. May ALLAH give you more strength inventing more helpful resources for muslim brother and sisters.
Some people have written that the the qiblah points to Iceland instead of Makkah from North America. That is correct, because a map is flat while the Earth is not. Simple as that. See http://moonsighting.com/qibla.html. If you want far, far more detail (more than you need, believe me), get the book by Shaykh Nuh Ha Mim Keller, “Port in a Storm”, and it will forever silence anyone who thinks the Qiblah in North America should be southeast.
a very good site that allow us to know where is the KIBLA direction at any location, may ALLAH bless you all and reward you all with a lot of Hassanat.
An excellent Web site that give the correct direction of Qiblah. it is already corrected a lot of exiting wrong directios on the earth. many Thanks for well job done
Thanks for this helpfull website, again. I have two advises for you.
1- The site can start from the visitors’ city, country using the ip address
2- Google have the altitude informations of the places, mountains etc. So it can be calculated when the sun rises and sun down times and the other salah times in a certain point on a map. The result can be compared with the pre calculated salah times and the compared salah times can be shown with the gps coordinations.
JazzakAllahu khayran wa barakAllahu feekum for this excellent service, shame I only just discovered it yesterday but will inshaAllah do my bit to let others know about it as its an invaluable service, mashaAllah. May Allah bless your affairs and remove all difficulties from your path.
I checked the direction of several places where I pray, like my house, work, parent’s house, brother’s, sister’s and uncle’s houses and realised we were all slightly out and can inshaAllah now correct the direction using this great service.
Very grateful indeed for this service, alhamdulillah.
what a wonderful way, thank you may god be with those people who help others find the right way. that was a problem for me to find the direction of Makka from where I live.
May Allah shower His choicest blessings on you and give you best reward for such a wonderful deed. You are helping Muslims all over the world to find the right direction to pray.
May Allah bless you for this immeasurable service. you will be in everyone’s du’a defacto.
A little trivia point: try zooming out a little and then finding the exact opposite point on the globe to our beloved Mekkah. It lies somewhere between San Diego, Ca and Hawaii near a small island in the Pacific. On that specific point the qibla can be in any direction. Wassalam.
I am very grateful to Allah that there are people like you interested of his satisfaction, I hope that Allah reward you as much more than your intention aimed.
Notice: I didn’t get the red line, although I’ve got my home precisely under the + sign.
Thank you so much for the marvelous efforts.
What is the format to key in Lat/Long for the Qibla Locator?
What is the Lat/Long for Qibla used in the Qibla Locator to determine the Qibla Direction?
May Allah (swt) bless you for this great charity. You will be in every one’s Du’a defacto. An interesting observation is that somewhere in the mid South Pacific (latitude 21.5 and longitude 140 approx.)there is a theoretical point where our beloved Ka’ba is equidistant and the Qibla is good in all directions.
May Allah reward you for your efforts. I think that it may be a good idea to have some explanation of why the qiblah is North-East in the USA, and why compasses can’t always be relied upon. Maybe you can put a link to brother Khalid’s moonsighting website.
Assalm Alaikum
Jazzakom Allah Khair
Dear Brothers & sisters,
I have tried to see the direction of Qibla from USA and found it directing toward the north instead of Makkah direction to the south. (check the map in contenents view please)
Kindly check and confirm with best wishes and regards
Thank you so much for this a good service.
I hope to draw the line from any site to Makkah.
If I choose any site far from Saudi the line will be short.
The website is very useful. I travel a lot to European and Western countries on work, this would be a 10 minute excercise to figure out the direction. Do you have an application for Iphone
thansk
I wanted to let you know also how I found out about your service. It was a friend of mine that e-mailed me a link. I’m sure that he also sent it to many others.
Obviously this means that, Masha’Allah, your site has become a service that is being recommended by word of mouth — something that is done only for products and services that hold a true value.
Excellent service!!! This is very useful to people like me who travel across the globe.
Almighty Allah knows the reward for your effort, the people who spread this news and the people who use this in the path of Allah.
Million Thanks and Jazakallah!!!
Allah Hafiz,
Ziaur Rahman
I think u should put dial on the screen which can also mavebale mean anyone can put it at thier desire location. It will be more helpfull and useable. Otherwise, u have done a gud job may Allah accept ur effort regarding this great cause
Great Program! I believe still many people not aware of it. Even myself, I just found it by accident.. after 2 years ! Bye the way, seems that the Masjid An-Nabawi are a little off !! Any idea ?
MASHA ALLAH!
This is very very useful page & I sincerely thank the people who have put in commendable effort.
MAY ALLAH BLESS THEM WITH MORE & MORE SUCCESS IN ALL THEIR DEEDS.
Jazak Allah o Khairan Alf Alf Marrah
MashaAllah. this is so very useful.
I travel a lot and always have to ask the front desk about the north pole direction. Now, thanks to Allah SWT first and then you guys, I will not have to ask them anymore.

Dear Brother
assalamo alaekum
I have been locating and orienting the Qibla in Distt: Gujrat from about 10 years and did about 200 Mosques with GPS but now from ur research u did is very easy for me.Thanks God.
wasslam, Shehzada Abdul Majeed
Do you or can you write software that will run on a GPS phone and using the GPS location point towards the Qibla? Meaning take co-ordinates from GPS and tell you the direction of the Qibla?
Assalam alsykum .. May Allah (SWT) bless you . It’s very helpfull service and realy I was need it two years ago when I was traveling to different state in America ! Jazak Allah (SWT) Al-Keir wa Al Hasanat
As salamu aleikum,
this site is very usefull espacially in well structred and well know places as in europe or usa but in many arabic/islamic countries google-map has no databaseknowledge about street names and citys etc. so there it isn’t helpfull as long as it is depending on “google-map”… so there’s still much work to do to make it better.. may Allah help you
was salam
Does it work on PDA, with windows mobile 6.0 and IE? The web page loads, but does not do anything, when, address is entered and ‘Locate’ button is clicked.
Jazakallah.
Can you turn this into an iPhone app? (should be relatively easy… iphone is already loaded with google maps) that way, the embedded GPS would automatically show you your location and the qiblah instantly. that would be awesome, inshallah!
Salaam, this website is wonderful. However, i had a doubt. I’ve just to a new apartment in Maryland (US) and tried using your tool. But when i zoomed out, it clearly was not pointing toward Makkah. Am I missing something? Please clear my doubt (via email if possible) coz i need to start praying in the right direction. The address for your reference: sweetgum circle, germantown, maryland MD 20874. Thanks!
Hi. I tried qibla finder from Brooklyn, New York and the red line pointed to a northeastern direction. Is that correct? We are at latitude 40.6795, so that seems funny. Selam.
My location is in Sydney Australia My GPS Position is S 33 .58 .1 & E 151. 2. 59 . and this Website is really helpful for Me.thanks.”The Beauty of Life does not depened how happy you are…But how happy othere’s… Can be ….Because of You….”

I is great. I am going to move to my new house newly develop land. This website really helps me in directing the qibla. Thank you very much.
Just to update that my in-laws house, the road name is Jalan Tioman dua instead it was read as Jalan Taman Ibu Kota. The location is at Latitude 3.2054; Longitude 101.7124. Could you please change the road name to Jalan Tioman 2.
Awesome tool SubhanALLAH !!!
May ALLAH s.w.t reward you for this invention which would InshaALLAH perfect the prayers direction of many travelling muslim brothers and sisters going forward.
With Internet phones/pda etc capturing the market with inbuilt GPS, do you think it would be worthwhile for including a feature on the site to automatically find the location using GPS when available. Just a thought…
Thanks for your Qiblalocator services, we use not only finding qibla but also to see where are we, and where we want to market our beautiful areas in Turkey.
Note: If we can point off places aon the map and find again easily, that will be very nice.
How accurate is the qibla locator. I tried different addresses in UK and the direction provided by QL seems to be off the mark. This becomes obvious when I zoomed out and the line of direction goes to the east of the Arabian peninsula (Iraq etc) rather than the western coast of the Arabian peninsula (Hijaz). Wonder if anyone can explain this! Jazk Allah
There is some element missing. Your calculated Qıbla direction is the geographical direction (what is measured on the map), or the magnetic (what does compass show) direction. Because of different magnetic deviation at each location, you should indicate that your directions are geographic or magnetic ?
Regards.
This is just amazing, I dint know how can anyone pay you back for the service you have given to the whole world with this fantastic invention. I checked a few masjids and I was astonished by the accuracy they had for Qibla hundreds of years ago, only now with this program one can check how clever those people work who had worked out the direction so correctly. God bless you all who were involved in this venture.
I pray to Allah Ta’ala to bless you and reward you with the best you deserve.
I can not tell you how happy I was to be able to find the right direction to pray.
I am sort of skeptic of this Qibla locator. Why does it point towards Sweden and Finland. Try to zoom out and look at the red line and follow to the direction it is pointing. This is inaccurate. Mecca is not there. I understand the Earth is round but again, the direction is suppose to not change.

Hi,
Your Qibla Locator works as a charm!
Keep up the good work!

Thanks for the great feedback Robert. This is exactly what i’m looking for; feedback from users so I can imporve the application. I’ll definitely look into your suggestions and try and work them in.

Great work!

July 24th, 2006 18:14
AssalamuAlaikum Dr Hamdani,
I’m glad you asked that question. Your confusion arises from the fact that you are looking a flat map of the earth. If you were to look at a real spherical globe you would note that the qibla IS indeed in the Northeast. For a detailed explanation I would like to point you to http://moonsighting.com/qibla.html. This site also mentions several alternate ways to find out the qibla direction all of which back the direction given by the qibla locator.

Assalaamu aleykum,
Like all the others, I really appreciate your site.
Meanwhile, jazaakullah
August 4th, 2006 09:08

Assalamu’Alaikum Br Ahmed,
I’m sorry I couldn’t tend to your question in time.

Thank you.
October 4th, 2006 02:03
Assalam-u-alaikom.
Thanks a lot for the nice job. As you correclty
have mentioned, the direction is given with respect to
True North. Nevertheless, most people use a compass to
find the direction, and so, they have the Magnetic
North instead. As the difference between True and
Magnetic North could be quite consdierable, do you
have any suggestion for people who simply use a compass?
Thanks a lot again,
Mohammad.
October 4th, 2006 02:36
Assalamu alaikum ,
Br Mehdi,The directions given at the locations you mention are correct. Perhaps you might want to readup on this site why this is the correct direction.
Br Mohammad, One of the main features of the qiblalocator is that one does not need to use a compass at all. Just by looking at the map and locating your surrounding landmarks you can face the qibla by following the red line.

AoA,
Really great website… ever since I moved to the US, I have been locating the qibla by myself, sorting out directions with my Islamic Center’s direction of qibla.

Again, GOOD JOB!

I think you should modify the section under “How to use this map” by :

2- adding translations to this section helping non-English speaking users to use the tool

Qiblalocator doesn’t work for north America at all, I live in New Jersey and when I put my zip code the Qiblalocator drew a line for me and when I zoomed it out the line was pointing towards Iceland not Saudi Arabia, the website administers should check this out for themselves.

Dear Brother:
As-salaamualaykum.
If you could get them to comment on your work, more peopple would use it, and they would even inform others about your work.

if there are two locations with the same name, the search engine gives only one of them and no way to reach the other through the search command. for instance: there are two locations named (Duma) one in Sudan and one in Syria, the search engine givs only the one in Sudan.
The same thing for (Harasta) one in Syria and one in USA.
I suggest if the search results are listed in the margin so the user specifies which one he is looking for / OR if you make it possible for the search box to accept strings like:( Syria, Duma) or (Syria, Harasta)

Please advise.

J’zakallah.
Keep up the good work.

i have a good suggestion that i think it will be useful. i wish to find the direction of the qibla directly when i enter the qibla locator site without the hastle of trying to find where am i on the map .. i mean if you can take the IP address and at least open the Google map of the city i am in at the moment (from the IP Address ) that will be more than enought as a start point.
good luc

May Allah reward you over and over for this great service. It’s very helpful and to make it even more helpful especially for travellers and people on the way who doesn’t know their exact address, I would suggest you 2 things:
1. mobile access
2. GPS integration
luckily google maps have both, the mobile access and the “track location” that uses GPS, so I hope you can use your overlay on their mobile version afer tracking location

Great Job!!
One tip for further enhancing the program is to make it automatically read the user’s IP Address and by default have their location displayed on the map. To get a better idea of what I mean check out google gadget “IP Information” by ‘C.K. Yang’..
Thanks!!

Salam wbt,
I came to know the programs via a friend of mine in UK.
February 7th, 2008 04:33
A simple but very useful tool. Thank you.
Just an idea. it will be easy for the users if you can provide searchin a place based on Latitude/Langitude numbers.

Salam O Alaikum,
This is a great project! Thanks for your hard work and efforts. Maybe if there was an embeddable code–that would really help many people. If you could do that, please that would be great!
Thanks,

Assalamualaikum
Jazakallahu khair for the magnificent program and for your hardwork. I find the accuracy and speed astonishing.
However I found that certain addresses would not yield any result. Even when I input the town name “Bandar Baru Bangi” it didn’t show result, whereas when I used manual zooming, I could find the town with its name correctly located. Does this relate to some bug in the Google mapping program which is outside your control?
Again, may Allah reward you. Thanks heaps.

A.A brother,
It is a great work, not only me but the entire world appreciating your great work. I am impressed with your idea. I am an IT-Professional myself but did not come up with this idea even though I could have done it. Only Allah can reward you for your community work.

Assalamu Alaikum,
Your Qibla Locator is what we need! Well done and very useful.
May I suggest that you incorporate the magnetic pole adjustment to the software so that users have a choice of True North or Magnetic North. Most of us use compass to locate Qibla.
Keep up the good work!

Dear Friends,
Assalamu Alaikum

March 26th, 2008 01:37
Jazakom Allah Koll Khair, this is a great service.
Before the red line started at Makkah, but today for some reason it starts in the red sea, please check.
Thank you very much.
March 26th, 2008 15:58
May Allah reward you with good deeds for every person that finds his direction to Makka through your program.
March 29th, 2008 22:17
Some people have written that the the qiblah points to Iceland instead of Makkah from North America. That is correct, because a map is flat while the Earth is not. Simple as that. See http://moonsighting.com/qibla.html. If you want far, far more detail (more than you need, believe me), get the book by Shaykh Nuh Ha Mim Keller, “Port in a Storm”, and it will forever silence anyone who thinks the Qiblah in North America should be southeast.

Salaam Aleikum,
Thanks for this helpfull website, again.
I hope this is useful for you.
Allah’s help with you.

Asslamu alaykum wa rahmatAllah Dear Brother,
JazzakAllahu khayran wa barakAllahu feekum for this excellent service, shame I only just discovered it yesterday but will inshaAllah do my bit to let others know about it as its an invaluable service, mashaAllah.

Its really great
April 15th, 2008 14:45
Good Work.May ALLAH reward you for this. Ameen
April 15th, 2008 20:56
If you zoom out, you can see the small red line attached to the pointer’s tip changing its direction as you move it around makkah.
Subhan Allah, nice use of meshup.
keep it up.
April 18th, 2008 11:03
May Allah bless you for this immeasurable service. you will be in everyone’s du’a defacto.
A little trivia point: try zooming out a little and then finding the exact opposite point on the globe to our beloved Mekkah. It lies somewhere between San Diego, Ca and Hawaii near a small island in the Pacific. On that specific point the qibla can be in any direction. Wassalam.
April 22nd, 2008 00:36
I am very grateful to Allah that there are people like you interested of his satisfaction, I hope that Allah reward you as much more than your intention aimed.
Notice: I didn’t get the red line, although I’ve got my home precisely under the + sign.
Thank you so much for the marvelous efforts.
April 22nd, 2008 23:19
Thank you for creating such wonderful program
have you made any API of this system by the way?
April 23rd, 2008 23:26
As-salamu Alaikum,
What is the format to key in Lat/Long for the Qibla Locator?
What is the Lat/Long for Qibla used in the Qibla Locator to determine the Qibla Direction?
April 23rd, 2008 23:44
May Allah (swt) bless you for this great charity. You will be in every one’s Du’a defacto. An interesting observation is that somewhere in the mid South Pacific (latitude 21.5 and longitude 140 approx.)there is a theoretical point where our beloved Ka’ba is equidistant and the Qibla is good in all directions.
April 24th, 2008 02:28
As-salaamu ‘alaikum.
May Allah reward you for your efforts. I think that it may be a good idea to have some explanation of why the qiblah is North-East in the USA, and why compasses can’t always be relied upon. Maybe you can put a link to brother Khalid’s moonsighting website.
April 24th, 2008 05:37
Assalamalaikum wa rehmatulah wa barakatahu,
Alhumdolillah…
May all good intentions succeed and be repaid in full by Allah (swt).

Dear Brothers & sisters,
I have tried to see the direction of Qibla from USA and found it directing toward the north instead of Makkah direction to the south. (check the map in contenents view please)
Kindly check and confirm with best wishes and regards

Do you or can you write software that will run on a GPS phone and using the GPS location point towards the Qibla? Meaning take co-ordinates from GPS and tell you the direction of the Qibla?

As salamu aleikum,
this site is very usefull espacially in well structred and well know places as in europe or usa but in many arabic/islamic countries google-map has no databaseknowledge about street names and citys etc. so there it isn’t helpfull as long as it is depending on “google-map”… so there’s still much work to do to make it better.. may Allah help you

Selam.
August 14th, 2008 20:54
Sorry for the second post, but I found an explanation of why qibla seems to be to the north and east in North america:

Salaam..
Great tool, May Allah reward for the effort
A small image arrow sign ( preferable at the end or middle of the line) indicting which direction is the Qibla would be helpful
Can this tool be interface with portable GPS system?
An actual www address of ( link) a location ( i.e. Mosque) would be helpful for the purpose of a Hyperlink
see Google maps of Montreal Mosques

Jazah’kALLAH Khair

Thanks for your Qiblalocator services, we use not only finding qibla but also to see where are we, and where we want to market our beautiful areas in Turkey.
Note: If we can point off places aon the map and find again easily, that will be very nice.

thank you very much for this great idea

September 22nd, 2008 05:25
How accurate is the qibla locator. I tried different addresses in UK and the direction provided by QL seems to be off the mark. This becomes obvious when I zoomed out and the line of direction goes to the east of the Arabian peninsula (Iraq etc) rather than the western coast of the Arabian peninsula (Hijaz). Wonder if anyone can explain this! Jazk Allah
September 23rd, 2008 18:22

October 7th, 2008 06:36
salaam, i’ve just started a new placement, forgot to bring my compass; this was really useful
October 11th, 2008 09:05
Dear Brother,
There is some element missing. Your calculated Qıbla direction is the geographical direction (what is measured on the map), or the magnetic (what does compass show) direction. Because of different magnetic deviation at each location, you should indicate that your directions are geographic or magnetic ?
Regards.
October 12th, 2008 08:17
Assalamo Aleikum,
Just like other brothers asked, please clarify the reference point, True North? And may ALLAH THE ONLY POWERFULL reward you for this great ideia.

October 18th, 2008 15:41
I pray to Allah Ta’ala to bless you and reward you with the best you deserve.
I can not tell you how happy I was to be able to find the right direction to pray.
Best wishes.
October 19th, 2008 13:41
I am sort of skeptic of this Qibla locator. Why does it point towards Sweden and Finland. Try to zoom out and look at the red line and follow to the direction it is pointing. This is inaccurate. Mecca is not there. I understand the Earth is round but again, the direction is suppose to not change.
October 20th, 2008 15:12
thanks alot it is a great job
نشكر لكم مجهوداتكم
